The mountain on which Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is situated is known as Mandhata and Shivpuri mountain. According to the legend, here King Mandhata pleased Bholenath by performing severe penance on this mountain. As a result, at the behest of King Mandhata, Bholenath sat here in the form of Shivling. Since then this mountain started to be called Mandhata mountain.
